Button sew vs buttonhole machines

This family covers two related operations: button-sew machines that attach buttons automatically, and buttonhole machines that stitch and cut the hole the button passes through. Straight (lockstitch) buttonholes suit shirts and light garments; keyhole (eyelet) buttonholes suit jeans and heavy outerwear. Both run automatically at production speed, so plackets stay consistent across a large run.

How to choose a button or buttonhole machine

First, separate the two jobs. For attaching buttons, a button-sew machine like the JACK T373 stitches and ties off in one cycle, and a feeder model positions each button so the operator only guides the garment. For buttonholes, choose by garment weight: a straight buttonhole machine (T781/T1790) for shirts and light work, a keyhole eyelet machine (T9820) for jeans and jackets where the rounded end relieves stress on the button shank. Decide whether mechanical or electronic control fits your volume, and whether you need programmable buttonhole shapes.
